At the moment I am teaching the freshman lab course for the chemistry department (Chem 107) and this is an e-mail I received yesterday from one of my students.
"I am in your Chem 107 class, but I am not going to be able to come anymore. I was in Goblin Valley on Saturday and got pinned under a boulder. I have shattered two bones in my right foot and broken three more. Needless to say, I will not be on my feet for a while. I am not able to get out of bed at all for at least the next week (maybe two or three) and I may end up having surgery."
I called her yesterday and apparently she was sitting on top of the rock with a few other people when it broke loose and rolled forward. All were thrown off the rock, she said about 15 feet - the rock then split in two and fell onto her right leg. I did not ask which bones were broke, but it is quite the story.

Woe! That is crazy! Does she have to drop out of school or what?
Thanks Alan, I'm going to look for that song. It's got to be somewhere on the internet.
Oh, and did you see my post about making a St. Louis style pizza out of a frozen CPK? It's really good!!!
At the time it happened she did withdraw from all her classes. But, I believe she started back up in the fall. She is currently in my a07 class this semester so hopefully she can see the class through. Last week, she said she would bring pictures of the rock on her leg so definitely looking forward to that.
