Backpacking the Paria Narrows

Dad and I with a few other people from our ward in St. Louis went on a 3 day 39 mile backpacking trip which follows the Paria River. The river flows through a slot canyon and then opens up before flowing into the Colorado River. Every turn of the trail had the most amazing views with huge rock faces and several rock formations. When hiking through narrows the biggest concern is flash flooding; we gave mom and Shelley the scare of their life as it rained heavily in Utah during the day we hiked through the slot canyon. We even got a little rain ourselves, but it only caused the river to rise a few inches. We took several pictures of the trip and have posted a few of the highlights below.

I am standing in fairly deep water here due to a beaver dam that was built on the river. The brush on the sides of the river prevented using the river banks as it was to thick.

Pumping water from a spring.

A small sand dune.

Our first meal after getting out of the canyon - 5 of us ordered a cheeseburger with fries - it never tasted so good.

I have more pictures that I may post later. But until then there you go. It was definitely a great experience.

Hey Alan,
I forgot you started posting again. I've missed out on a lot. That looks like an awesome hike. If you can do that than you and Shelley should come run the Salt Lake 1/2 marathon with us next year. We are the "Run Forrest Run" team. This year we got into the paper. Next year we want to get on TV, so we need more runners. Whatdoya say?

BTW, Bob's baby is such a cutie. That is cool you got to see Ben. His sister, Julie, has a blog, you can get to it from my site or Hollie's site.
